To obtain a Military Marker or headstone for any veteran of any war that does not currently have one you can obtain one for FREE from the Veteran's Administration. You will however be responsible for getting someone to install this marker for you, unless of course y ou can install the marker yourself. Cemetery staff in national, military post, and military base cemeteries are responsible for setting the headstone or marker at no cost to the applicant. Some state veterans’ cemeteries may charge the applicant a nominal fee for setting a Government-furnished headstone or marker. You will also need to let the cemetery sexton or owner of the cemetery know that you plan on installing a new marker to obtain their permission. Often the VA will send the marker directly to whomever is going to install the marker for you or to the cemetery itself. Also, be aware these markers weigh several hundred pounds so take that into account if you are thinking of installing the marker yourself.
