Eight companies of this regiment were organized at Louisiana, Pike County, 
Missouri, May 5, 1862 as the 10th Regiment Missouri State Militia Cavalry, to
serve during the war in Missouri.  Its designation was changed to the 3rd 
Regiment Missouri State Militia Cavalry, Feb. 2, 1863.  Four companies of the 
12th Regiment Cavalry, Missouri State Militia, were transferred to this regiment, 
Feb. 4, 1863.  Ten companies (C to M inclusive) were mustered out at different 
dates from January to May, 1865, by reason of expiration of term of service, and 
the remaining companies July 13, 1865.
