Its designation was changed to the 3rd Regiment Missouri State Militia Cavalry, Feb. 2, 1863. Four companies of the 12th Regiment Cavalry, Missouri State Militia, were transferred to this regiment, Feb. 4, 1863. Ten companies (C to M inclusive) were mustered out at different dates from January to May, 1865, by reason of expiration of term of service, and the remaining companies July 13, 1865.
